Event Recap: TuneCore Live LA @ Bardot 1/20

Last month we kicked off the New Year with a bang by bringing TuneCore Artists Freedom Fry, Blackbear and Trevor Wesley to party with us at the Bardot in Hollywood. To us, there’s no better way to get back in the right mood after decompressing from the holidays than a night of awesome independent live music!

Before the doors even opened there was a line around the block. Not bad for a Wednesday, huh? Fans of all artists packed the beautiful space and made sure to support everyone on the bill. Thanks of course to our pals at Swisher Sweets, CeleBuzz and Mirrored Media.

Freedom Fry6

Up first was Freedom Fry, who started things off by setting the vibe with their smooth indie folk-pop tunes.

Trevor Wesley3

Trevor Wesley hit the stage next, and ramped up the energy with his complete band and back up singers!

Blackbear3

Rounding up the night was Blackbear, whose hip hop infused R&B sound brought all the all the ladies and gents to the front row.

DJ William Lifestyle

And let’s not forget about our guy DJ William Lifestyle who was tearing it up between sets all night!

We’ll be announcing our upcoming TuneCore Live dates soon, so make sure to follow us on Facebook and RSVP when we’re setting up in your neck of the woods next! In the meantime, enjoy the photo gallery from our awesome January evening below.

Event Recap: TuneCore Live LA @ Bardot

A couple of weeks back we wrapped up our final TuneCore Live event at our new home-away-from-home, Bardot Hollywood. We had a blast showcasing TuneCore Artists Chelsea Lankes, Blondfire, and Ships Have Sailed, and the turnout was great. Are we sad that the year is over? Of course! But we’re looking forward to a 2016 filled with equally awesome live shows.

Thanks to our partners at Swisher Sweets, CeleBuzz and Mirrored Media as always for getting us through another event and making sure everyone had a great time. Check out some of the action below and make sure to sift through our photo gallery!

Chelsea Lankes9

Up first was Cheslea Lankes. The local singer-songwriter set the tone for the night with her strong vocals and touching lyrics. The talented three piece backing band really helped drive Chelsea’s songs home!

Blondfire3

Hitting the stage next was brother-sister duo Blondfire. With the help of a rhythm section, the crowd was treated to a powerful pop set which included their latest single, “Pleasure” – talk about the perfect way to get a group of music fans excited for your next EP!

Ships Have Sailed

Rounding off the night was the graceful 3-piece indie rock outfit Ships Have Sailed. Their set was the perfect way to wrap up a night of well balanced indie music, and the crowd took to performances of songs from their latest full length, Moodswings.

If you were able to join us for the big end-of-year blowout, thanks for coming! If this post is giving you FOMO and feelings of deep regret, we totally understand – but the good news is you can head over and ‘Like’ our TuneCore Live Facebook page to stay up to speed with any and all upcoming events! See you in 2016.

Artist Breakdown: TuneCore Live: LA @ Bardot 11/18

The live independent music stars have aligned! That’s right: we’ve got TWO TuneCore Live shows on the same night – on both ends of the United States. You may have read about our upcoming event at the Living Room in Brooklyn, but we’re here to remind our buddies in the Los Angeles area that on Wednesday, November 18th, we’ll be hosting another FREE, 21+ show at our home away from home, Bardot Hollywood.

With the ever helpful Swisher Sweets, CeleBuzz and Mirrored Media, we’re psyched to bring you some pre-Thanksgiving live music courtesy of TuneCore Artists Chelsea Lankes, blondfire, and Ships Have Sailed! As always, doors are at 8 and capacity is limited – so get there early. Learn a little bit about all three artists below (and have a listen!), then head over to our Facebook event page to RSVP.

Ships Have Sailed

ShipsHaveSailed_FullBand_2015_01_WEB

Combining rock, pop and electronic music, LA’s Ships Have Sailed came out of the garage swinging! Their debut EP, Someday, was released just last year and received critical acclaim and heavy airplay from NPR and college to commercial radio in the U.S. and Canada. Comprised of Will Carpenter and Dan Hange, the duo rode the wave of momentum as they released their recent debut LP, MoodswingsShips Have Sailed aimed to offer their fans “a well-rounded, full-length story intended to be heard from the beginning to the end.”

blondfire

blondfire

Comprised of brother and sister Bruce and Erica Driscoll, blondfire acquired wide critical reception and a worldwide fan base with their 2014 album Young Heart. Erica’s vocals allows blondfire tracks to dance between the likes of Top 40 pop music and dark indie synth rock. Meanwhile, Bruce’s stunning production complements the musical journey as he dabbles with keys, synth, guitars and explosive drums. Their latest single, “Pleasure“, as Erica puts it is “inspired by the crazy Manchester drug scene aftermath and how seeking that ultimate euphoria and pleasure can come with a dark side.”

Chelsea Lankes

chels

2015 has been a pretty hot year for singer/songwriter Chelsea Lankes! While we’re proud to say she’s been using TuneCore for a couple of years, it was the release of her two singles “Down For Whatever” and a cover of Motley Crue’s “Too Young To Fall In Love” that gained radio support and a shout out on Spotify’s New Music series. Tie that in with a VICE short film placement, a feature on RAC’s “Can’t Forget You”, being brought on as a BCBG “GenGirl”, and the release of the first single off her upcoming album (stream below), and we’re willing to bet 2016 should be equally as promising for Chelsea!

Artist Breakdown: TuneCore Live LA @ Bardot, 10/15

While much of the independent music world will be hustling and bustling in New York City for the CMJ Music Marathon next week, we’ll be holding it down for another installment of TuneCore Live at our favorite Hollywood venue, Bardot!

With some help from Swisher Sweets, Mirrored Media and CeleBuzz, our west coast team will be mixing and mingling on Thursday, October 15th for this FREE, 21+ event. Haven’t made it over to TuneCore Live yet? Here’s the perfect chance! Come hang, get down to some awesome live music, and get to know some of the hardworking folks at TuneCore. Get familiar with this month’s line-up below, then head over to Facebook to RSVP. See you out there!

Terra Naomi

02_Terra_Naomi_400

Remember back in the mid-2000’s when “YouTube” was just something your parents had never heard of? LA-based singer/songwriter Terra Naomi was one of the first artists to build a true YouTube following and won the first ever YouTube Award for Best Music Video in 2006! Terra went on to sign publishing and record deals with Universal and have her music licensed on TV, film and commercials. She’s leaned on TuneCore for numerous releases and is currently working on her third studio album and we can’t wait to hear it!

Jesse Thomas

While she moved out to LA to become an actress, Jesse Thomas found her true musical calling at a random open mic night. She managed to find a label, manager and tack a Starbucks “Feature of the Week” and an iTunes “Single of the Week” onto her resume in just five years! Jesse’s music is country and folk inspired, with her raspy voice carrying it all. She’s known as a ‘true entertainer’ around LA these days, and is also working on her third studio album set for release in 2016.

Roses and Revolutions

RR Photo 1

Roses and Revolutions are an indie pop duo featuring singer Alyssa Coco and guitarist Matt Merritt. “The big thing that clicked for us… is that the two of us write everything together. Every song we’ve ever written is a 50/50 collaboration,” says Merritt. Their sharp creative cohesion couldn’t be more present in Roses and Revolutions’ Torch EP, which was released in the summer of 2015.

Event Recap: TuneCore Indie Artist Forum & TuneCore Live at Bardot

By Alex Horowitz & Kevin Cornell

On September 19th and 20th, 2015, artists from all walks of life gathered at the legendary SIR Studios in Hollywood, California for the first ever Indie Artist Forum presented by TuneCore.

Hosted by the ever charismatic singer-songwriter Kelley James, The Indie Artist Forum was an opportunity for independent musicians to come together and discuss the day-to-day realities of making a living as an artist in an ever changing music landscape.

Along with TuneCore’s live event series, TuneCore Live, the Forum is another step for us towards taking a more active part in supporting, engaging in, and shining a light on the independent artist community.

For those that couldn’t make it, (and those that could, but want to re-live the good times) here’s a quick recap of what went down.

Live Performances

Indie Artist Forum attendees were treated to intimate live performances by some of the most exciting names in independent music, including Dylan Chambers, Terra Naomi, David Garza, Jesse Boykins III and Caitlin Eadie.

Q&A’s

As much fun as we all had being entertained by our fellow artists, at the end of the day, the Forum was all about learning how to better navigate a career as an independent musician.  From star pop Screen Shot 2015-09-29 at 2.54.08 PMmusician and songwriter Bonnie McKee, to former head of Twitter Music Bob Moczydlowsky, to legendary producer, manager, and British Invasion rocker Peter Asher (who received a standing ovation after his keynote speech), Forum attendees were given the rare opportunity to learn from and ask questions of some of the top minds in every facet of the music business.

Breakout Sessions

No question the Forum’s keynote guests and speakers had a lot to offer all of us in terms of experience and advice, but it turns out we had just as much to learn from each other.  Much of the weekend was spent interacting with fellow artists, and sharing stories, struggles, and inspiration.

TuneCore Live at Bardot

On Saturday night, after the first full day of the Forum came to a close, all in attendance were invited to a night of continued networking, drinks, and live music at Bardot for September’s installment of TuneCore Live. Sponsored by Swisher Sweets, CeleBuzz and Mirrored Media, it was the perfect way to keep the momentum going.

Screen Shot 2015-09-29 at 2.58.59 PMUp first was San Francisco’s Split Screens – the brainchild of musical/visual artist Jesse Cafiero. The crowd eased into the
evening with Split Screens’ intoxicating, poppy jams, which included his popular single “Close Your Eyes” that was recently licensed on FOX’s series Bones.

Next, as more folks began to filter in, TuneCore Artist Joel Taylor took the stage with his band. The LA-based singer/songwriter took
us on a rollercoaster ride of tempos, themes and influences – and even got the room going with a wonderful Bruce Springsteen cover!

Screen Shot 2015-09-29 at 2.59.32 PMTo cap off the evening, the ever charismatic Desi Valentine hit the stage with a four-piece backing band. Kicking up the funk, soul and pop, Desi kept the party moving and dancing. Speaking of covers, the crowd was treated to a fun twist on Oasis’ “Wonderwall” from Valentine and his band!

Giving Back

As Kelley James pointed out on Sunday, giving back can be hugely impactful for an artist.  Artists in attendance on the final day of the Forum had the opportunity to learn about one fantastic outfit for musicians to give back — a company called CoachArt.  CoachArt offers artists and athletes the opportunity to put their skills to good use by volunteering to spend time with, and teach a new skill to, chronically ill children and their families.

For artists in the LA/SF area, here’s where you can learn more about volunteering opportunities with CoachArt.

Wrapping Up

This was our first Indie Artist Forum, but it surely won’t be our last.  Huge thanks to everyone that came out, and to those that didn’t, we hope to see you next time.  Thank you to all our sponsors, including WorldArts, WURRLY, A&R Worldwide, Swisher Sweets, Bompopradio, MSCLVR, Dash Radio and Mirrored Media.
