Arrangements by Lucas/Ragan/Lucas 2007 “Bloody Shells” Ragan (sesac) They took him in arrest with a shot through his chest And many more followed through The men folk shook their heads and said we did what we had to do While the women folk buried their heads in their hands and covered the children’s eyes Before they turned to see Mr. Watson’s children and wife crying Oh Lord, why the storm? These shores you scorn In the times we make While our lives you take Well you sent a devil down to the Ten Thousand Islands To raise cane and wreck hell Oh and now he’s face down, face down in these bloody shells Here life ain’t grand as sugar cane is sweet when the tides bring misery Of two young lovers shot all to hell over land while Watson’s free Oh Lord, why the storm? These shores you scorn In the times we make While our lives you take Well you sent a devil down to the Ten Thousand Islands To raise cane and wreck hell Oh and now he’s face down, face down in these bloody shells Well boy raise an ear before you raise your iron Unless you aim with will For Edgar J. won’t back down to you son And that’s why he will be killed Oh Lord, why the storm? These shores you scorn In the times we make While our lives you take Well you sent a devil down to the Ten Thousand Islands To raise cane and wreck hell Oh and now he’s face down, face down in these bloody shells “Bells” A. Lucas (bmi) the groom hit the fence as the mortars fell then raced across cannery row felt the heat lick his heals heard the grinding of wheels smelled the flesh in the fire burning all all his finest stunk of sweat as the rains came down and it was black with the ashes of his home from the hillside he watched as vast rivers colored crimson poured from lovers veins and sank into the deep (CHORUS) well is this ringing any bells have we resigned ourselves to silence as our hearts are being swallowed whole are our bells now all but broken do you stagger towards the call for us to ring our fighting bells here tonight (CHORUS) oh lord! For us to ring our fighting bells here tonight “Cold Night” Ragan (sesac) Pack up the truck and hit that old road Heading straight up 395 Well there ain’t nothing much like freedom and wind To make a tired man feel quite alive Oh and heaven’s having your girl by your side Oh and heaven’s as close as taking a ride Well Bishop has passed and I roll down the glass To breath elevation and pines Well the air way up here takes your soul off somewhere To a higher ground off by and by Oh and heaven’s having your girl by your side Oh and heaven’s as close as taking a ride Oh how the days change here fierce with the wind From a sunny sky filled with blue To a white blanket covering the mountains again in a June Lake Village for two Oh another cold night coming in Oh another snowy night closing in First things first build a fire of course And settle down to warm up the bones We’re in for the night and damn it feels right To sit down and sip something strong Oh and heaven’s having your girl by your side Oh and heaven’s as close as taking a ride Oh how the days change here fierce with the wind From a sunny sky filled with blue To a white blanket covering the mountains again in a June Lake Village for two Oh another cold night coming in Oh another snowy night closing in “Hold My Bed” Ragan (sesac) and A. Lucas (bmi) Well the rich are getting mighty And the poor folks stay the same the middle class just seems to fade away And on every death bed, no matter what the case I can’t help but wonder what they’d say “Well I could’ve been a better man. I could’ve been a saint. Or maybe Helped more neighbors along the way.” Or just as well, “I did alright in most moves that I made. now show me the light as they say.” I never seem to worry much. I never seem to mind, Believing everything will work out fine. I’m with the one that I dream of to help me down the line. So hold my bed, I’ll get there on time. Well a hammer never knew a hand less experienced than mine My voice is the only tool I’ve known but as I stare into the darkness of that great eternal sleep My soul knows not which way it’s headed for I never seem to worry much no I never seem to mind Believing that I’ll never run short on time The sheets are getting tighter in this lonely bed I made So spare me Lord I fear that I’m not ready. “Simple Life” Ragan (sesac) B. Lucas (bmi) and A. Lucas (bmi) Oh comment ca va oh Ma Ma. Oh it’s been a long time and now we’ve grown old Good time’s not forgotten oh Ma Ma in the old house on the lake back in them old pines. Oh lord where are the hours? Oh when spring was in flower Oh lord how the years go Oh where they’ve gone Lord I don’t know Oh comment ca va oh Pa Pa. Oh It’s been a long time and now we’ve grown old I’ll never forget the things that you said how to live life back in them old pines. I took myself a wife though we have not a child When we’re blessed with one to raise I’ll pass on your ways Stand unafraid in a world full of strife And hold to the ways of a pure simple life Oh lord where are the hours? Oh when spring was in flower Oh lord how the years go Oh where they’ve gone lord I don’t know “Sun or Snow” A. Lucas (bmi) a nine hour bus ride to see a friend of mine I'd neglected him as the year had found me obsessed with my own life I wasn't there for his wedding or the birth of his first child And these mistakes I'd long regret as I'd never make them right it's been seven years swallowed lord how the time has passed me by I've written this song some three times though it never saw daylight so I’ll sing this for your daughter for myself and for your wife because those you loved and loved you hold you still on sleepless nights and though you've gone into the dark lord knows we will soon follow life is short and shorter still with all these cold and rainy days we have few years left I'm told before we're all resting in the soil so I'll carry you with me through sun or snow all my guilt lay under covers it was like sleeping on nails and glass your passing made such tremors it felt as if the earth shook from the loss of the man though I relive our tours and drunken nights with a shiver and a smile my blood runs cold with a ringing phone and Christina on the line and though you've gone into the dark lord knows we will soon follow life is short and shorter still with all these cold and rainy days we have few years left I'm told before we're all resting in the soil so I'll carry you with me through sun or snow “Darling Corey” P.D.- arrangement by Lucas/Ragan/Lucas 2007 Wake up wake up darling Corey What makes you sleep so sound the revenue officers are coming gonna tear your still house down Well the first time I seen darling Corey She was wondering by the sea She had a pistol in her pocket And banjo on her knee Wake up wake up darling Corey What makes you sleep so sound the revenue officers are coming gonna tear your still house down The last time I saw darling Corey She had an old jar in her hand She was drinking that dirty water With a low down gambling man Don’t you hear those bluebirds a singing Don’t you hear that mournful sound They’re preaching at Corey’s funeral In that lonesome graveyard ground Dig a hole dig a hole in the meadow Dig a hole in the cold cold ground Dig a hole dig a hole in the meadow For to lay darling Corey down Wake up wake up darling Corey What makes you sleep so sound the revenue officers are coming gonna tear your still house down “Distant Land To Roam” P.D.- Arrangement by Lucas/Ragan/Lucas 2007 I remember very well on a dark and dreary day Just as I was leaving home for a distant land to roam Mother said (mother said) my dear boy (my dear boy) For I hope to see you next year again Fare you well (fare you well) fare you well (fare you well) For I left my dear old home for a distant land to roam And these words she said to me as she took me by the hand If on earth we meet no more may we meet at God’s right hand Mother said (mother said) my dear boy (my dear boy) For I hope to see you next year again Fare you well (fare you well) fare you well (fare you well) For I left my dear old home for a distant land to roam Now I’ve wandered far away from my home I've gone astray Now I'm coming coming home never more from thee to roam Mother said (mother said) my dear boy (my dear boy) For I hope to see you next year again Fare you well (fare you well) fare you well (fare you well) For I left my dear old home for a distant land to roam “Sin” A. Lucas (bmi) lower your halo you are no kind of angelic son but a blind figure head led by smug oil men in a kingdom of fast sinking sand you sleep cradled in such comfort though the world waits to put you in the ground in sick shallow earth with the agenda you served and a generation that hoped to take it's turn I have measured the weight of your sins and I can see how you tremble at the sound of thunderous voices in the distance an ever spreading fire to burn you out lordy me lower your halo for the only smiling face here is your own you speak of spirits to feed when our crops lay dried in fallow land you'd starve our bodies and tear apart our souls I have measured the weight of your sins and I can see how you tremble at the sound of thunderous voices in the distance an ever spreading fire to burn you out lordy me “Heading Down” Ragan (sesac) Granddaddy, don’t roll over For the times are a changing I worship in the woods and on the water and In the wind that’s ever blowing. Well the backroad is calling, the sun is a falling And the time is close to just right There may be no preacher, no pews, or old altars But God will be there tonight So I’m heading down to the water where the grace has been given. Oh mama don’t be angry and daddy, put that old belt away the moon is full and a rising and the tide brings in my religion Well the backroad is callin, the sun is a fallin And the time is close to just right There may be no preacher, no pews, or old altars But God will be there tonight Well I’m heading down to the water Where the grace has been given. Hallelujah. Amen. “The Light” Ragan (sesac) and A. Lucas (bmi) Hold on to me girl we’re not going down in flames Though a fire’s burnt the ground every mile in the trail we’ve made We’ve seen times that were rough and we’ve shined Like a lantern in the darkest coal mine So take my hand. We’ll keep heading up to the light Our story began like a bona fide hurricane down in old Boheme Like the blast from a barrel shook me down to the marrow Left me begging you for more of the same I knew that you were moving like the continental drift and yea the wind would soon be blowing you away So I didn’t let go and I’m still holding on today Hold on to me girl we’re not going down in flames Though a fire’s burnt the ground every mile in the trail we’ve made We’ve seen times that were rough and we’ve shined Like a lantern in the darkest coal mine So take my hand. We’ll keep heading up to the light The heavens up above are falling to the ground and I just try to understand Every way and anyway to make it home alive and lay still hand in hand And in the black where the heart is taxed to the bone leaving one bare Don’t let go my dear. Hold on to me girl we’re not going down in flames Though a fire’s burnt the ground every mile in the trail we’ve made We’ve seen times that were rough and we’ve shined Like a lantern in the darkest coal mine So take my hand. We’ll keep heading up to the light “Judgment Day” B. Lucas (bmi) Bring it on!

Liner Notes: Recorded by Mitchell Townsend at The Laundry Room in Huntington Beach, Ca. 2007 "Ole Diesel" The tired winds blow and the restless go home and the haggard lies down to sleep Where the hours go slow and the beauty we know is the love, now that is the key Lay awake and breath while the fire overtakes me Down the lonesome road. Ole diesel, please take me home When the curtains do close and the night becomes old and the willing go on their way No ones in sight so they shut down the lights Since the bottles all have gone dry When it rains son it pours heaven opens its doors to drop hell straight from the sky The open road’s gone and the darkness is calm Enough to take your dear life Stay awake and breathe, and struggle to stay in the lines Down the lonesome road. Ole diesel, please take me home When the curtains do close and the night becomes old and the stragglers all find their way No ones in sight so they shut down the lights Since the bottles all have gone dry Stay awake and breathe, while the fire overtakes me Down the lonesome road. Ole diesel she brought me home The tired winds blow and the restless go home and the haggard lies down to sleep Where the hours go slow and the beauty we know is the love, now that is the key

Liner Notes: “Revival Road” was written by Chuck Ragan-Sesac in September 2008 and arranged for The Revival Tour by Ragan, Barry, Gaunt and Barnes in RVA for the people by the people. "Revival Road" Fare thee well old friends Fare the well we go Burning up fuel and road Oh, but bet your stars One day we’ll return For revival, sin and soul Well the color of road Is as black as the coal The oldtimers burnt into ash And the lines laid in gold Lead us all the way home We follow them as hours pass All while the diesel engine’s humming like the rain while the rubber tires are burning up to sing Fare thee well old friends Fare the well we go Burning up fuel and road Oh, but bet your stars One day we’ll return For revival, sin and soul Heading dow, heading south Come south, we head north To the west where the west never won Chasing lonesome whistle bells And iron to falling suns All while the diesel engine’s burning like a train in that old familiar Norfolk southern way Fare thee well old friends Fare the well we go Burning up fuel and road Oh, but bet your stars One day we’ll return For revival, sin and soul So long…. Fare thee well old friends Fare the well we go Burning up fuel and road Oh, but bet your stars One day we’ll return For revival, sin and soul
