  • Lord Ward - Brooklyn Blister
Liner Notes: "Lo-Fi Allstars lynchpin Phil Ward draws on his love of B-More and the Sinden & Hervé / Switch aesthetic for a synthy, cut-up bassline burbler. Ghetto, scratchadelic and totally original." - 4/5 DJ Mag Aug 2008 The debut solo release from Phil Ward the mainman behind dance/rock crossover pioneer legends the Lo-Fidelity Allstars. Now based in New York City, "Brooklyn Blister" and his brand new persona Lord Ward firmly places him back at the cutting edge. Lord Ward is the latest in a line of aliases fo rthe man AKA the Albino Priest and Jeff Bile, with this incarnation seeing him hitting a trans-atlantic-crossing sound that is both ultra contemporary and uniquely Wardian, with it's booming basslinehouse bottom-end merging with big-room vocals and radio-friendly hooks aplenty. Lo-Fidelity All Stars were signed to Skint Records and in 1998 their landmark debut 'How To Operate With a Blown Mind'was released. "Not since 'Screamadelica' has an album mixed lyrical vision, hectic sampladelica and heavyweight funk in such a way that the rock and dance elements are inseparable", said Mixmag at the time. Soon Phil was touring with Moby and DJ-ing with label-mate Fatboy Slim at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom and found himself at the helm for one of the most successful British bands in America, selling 500,000 copies of his album. One of the standout tracks, 'Battleflag' became an international dancefloor anthem of massive proportions. Now ten years on, in 2008 Phil's new work is likened to "Sinden & Hervé on steroids" in DJ Mag called "a choppy, wonky collision of breaks and bassline house with growling basslines galore" in Mixmag and he is named an "influential genre-mashing electronic mentalist" in NME. And "Brooklyn Blister" is his best work yet.....

Liner Notes: SINGLE OF THE WEEK - DMC Update CASINO - GOOD TIMES "Casino just keep on delivering the goods. Their unique brand of contemporary northern soul has got an authentic flavour, but manages to deliver the punch of today’s recording techniques. “Good Times” is their third single and it keeps up with the pace and quality of “Floorshaker” and “Running On Back To You” with no worries whatsoever, as soulful vocals work their magic over stomping beats, swelling brass and irresistible key riffs. Well sprung dancefloors are taking a hammering." 5 stars "Imagine if northern soul had a heavy house kick. 'Good Times' is the sort of feel-good stomper that will have asses shaking and hands raising for the heavens. If you're after an unashamed feel-good summer record, this could well be it." Liner Notes: RECOMMENDED ALBUM - 5 STARS - IDJ MAGAZINE IDC's debut album "Overthrow The Boss Class" received a 5 star 'Recommended Album' review in International DJ Magazine (iDJ) which called it "2008's 'We Are The Night'". And it is not just his recorded output that compares IDC to the likes of Chemical Brothers - he is equally well known for his numerous main room DJ sets at some of the best clubs in the world, such as Together London, Razzmatazz Barcelona, Volar Hong Kong and Zouk Singapore. "The original quality in tracks like 'Stomp' is down the the beautiful, scortching guitars. There's a sense of delirious enjoyment that gives it an instantly accessible appeal" DJ Mag "Dancefloor rock'n'roll, I reckon that hits the nail directly on the bass and synth driven head" Artrocker

Liner Notes: August saw the debut solo release from Phil Ward and his brand new persona 'Lord Ward'. 'Brooklyn Blister' was tagged: "Ghetto, scratchadelic and totally original" by DJ Mag and iDJ reckoned "It's scatty, it's funky and it's got some hefty ghetto charm" Now the main-man behind dance/rock crossover pioneer legends the Lo-Fidelity Allstars unleashes the second Lord Ward single, 'Rich Boys In Strip Clubs'. Lord Ward/Lo-fi Allstars DJ sets, described by DJ Magazine as "spectacular sonic collisions of acid energy, rock & roll attitude and psychedelic sounds", continually see the maestro play at some of the best venues around the world. The 'Lord Ward' sound is both ultra contemporary and uniquely Wardian with it's booming basslinehouse bottom-end merging with big-room vocals and radio-friendly hooks aplenty.

Liner Notes: Release Description: United Sounds of Europe - Colssus Release December 25th 2008 - Corsair Records cat CR019 Yes, released on Christmas day for those family-bored Beatporters and iTunes gift token kids alike! "Colossus" is the second single from Angel Tripiudo's 'United Sounds of Europe', featuring two mixes of the track by the man himself. Getting some fantastic early DJ feedback citing the likes of Boy 8 Bit through to Deadmau5... USofE's double 'A' sider debut on Corsair earlier this year was decsrcibed as "not a million miles away from 'Higher State Of Consciousness' getting fed through Mr. Oizo's beef grinder, and a brilliant racket all round" and "hypnotic, melodic electro-tech stripped down to just its pants and socks. Very Berlin, but playful with it" in iDJ. Mixmag reckoned "US of E go for the jugular with a slate of KLF-esque rave madness that'll have the kids stomping".

Liner Notes: IDC - Imaginary Bones - release April 'Imaginary Bones' is the brand new single from IDC. It's the first new IDC material since last year's debut album (5 star 'recommended album' in International DJ Magazine, 7/10 DJ Mag, 4 stars DMC Update). The talented multi-instrumentalist David McCarthy is joined on this new single by Phil 'Lord' Ward from the legendary dance-rock crossover pioneers the Lo-Fidelity Allstars on vocals. "This raucous romp could well be IDC's biggest club monster to date. Watch this tear the arse out of a speaker stack near you soon." the iDJ playlist Jan 2009 "This is the most p*ssed up, drugged up, headf**k of a record that I've heard in a very long time, it makes The Prodigy sound like they've got The X Factor. Londoner David McCarthy is IDC, and for "Imaginary Bones" he's drafted in Lo Fidelity Allstars frontman Phil Ward, who does an incredible job on the vocals, think Sean Ryder on a 5 day bender. Doing acid whilst listening to IDC's "Imaginary Bones" is not advisable." DMC Update 5 ***** Jan 2009 'Imaginary Bones' comes as an extended single package, featuring the main version, a dub mix, an alternate full-band version, a live version, a d'n'b remix from Jenkins and a maximal-tech remix from United Sounds of Europe. • Casino - That's The Way The World Is Today - The Album
Liner Notes: Casino 'That 's The Way The World Is Today' Debut album out on Corsair Records March 30th 2009 "After releasing a string of excellent Northern Soul influenced singles, “Running On Back To You”, “Floorshaker” and “Good Times”, it was pretty obvious Casino were on a roll. So, on to the eagerly awaited debut LP “That’s The Way The World Is Today”, which features all three singles and then some. “Really Really Love You” has got the soulful gospel tinged vocals, but this time they are worked over big funky breaks and hooky keyboard stabs. Fatboy Slim better watch his back. “Penthouse Affair” is another 4/4 stomper with soul smoothie vocals and soaring strings, and “Whatcha Gonna Do” takes the spring loaded dancefloor to another level, with horns to die for. Casino have taken the soulful elements of the 1960’s & 1970’s and revamped them, “That’s The way The World Is Today” is good time party music with substance and comes over like a breath of fresh air in a clogged up sewer." DMC Update 'Album Of The Week' 5 stars "Casino's nitrous fuelled debut full length album, 'That's The Way The World Is Today', a stompathon aimed straight at dancefloors everywhere. As well as enjoying the entirety of the album as a contemporary slant on classic northern soul melded with more recent forms of dance music. Hints to the sound of Mirwood records, Countdown Here I Come, Bok To Back plus a blistering cut n shunt take on Sam And Kitty's I Got Something Good are detectable, among others on this unmissable album. Guaranteed to have all but the most narrow minded grinning rictus like, 'That's The Way The World Is Today' is unquestionably 2009's first must own at all costs release." Scootering March 2009 Recommended Listening From heavy rotation on MTV Dance to a live radio session for Dermot O'Leary's Radio 2 show heard by one and a half million people; from John Kennedy's 'Single Of The Week' on XFM to Pete Tong's 'Essential Selection'chart on Radio 1; from the dance press to the broadsheets; Casino's appeal seems to be universal. Perhaps this has something to do with the uplifting tunes, or maybe the massively danceable beats, or possibly it's simply that no-one else is doing anything quite the same way as Casino.

Liner Notes: 'Smash and Grab World' is the brand new single from Lo-Fidelity Allstars. Taken from the forthcoming third album 'Northern Stomp', 'Smash And Grab World' is backed with the exclusive non-album track 'Brand New Friends'. The dance/rock pioneers are back with their first new material since 2004's 'Don't Be Afraid Of Love' and 2007's hugely well received 'Best Of' compilation, of which the NME said "it's easy to forget how influential genre- mashing electronic mentalists Lo-Fidelity Allstars actually are - their fingerprints are all over everything by Kasabian to Klaxons, and they are adored by everyone from Rage Against The Machine to the Prodigy." Lo-Fidelity Allstars have a career spanning 12 years, from their initial impact as NME favourites (winning the 'Most Promising New Band NME Brat Award') to dance press rock/dance pioneer darlings, through to massive USA success (with 'Battleflag' soundtracking everything from ER to Hollywood blockbusters). During 2008 they released several remixes of other artists to dance press acclaim - "the Lo Fi's offer a choppy, wonky collision of breaks and bassline house with growling basslines galore" reckoned Mixmag and which DJ Mag described as "like Sinden & Hervé on steroids."

  • Lo Fidelity Allstars - Northern Stomp
Liner Notes: From sweaty nights in UK clubs in 1999 to 150,000 people on a Thai beach in 2009, from the first iPod TV adverts to a pivotal scene in ER, Lo Fidelity Allstars have been the soundtrack for a generation who find the idea of mixed up genres and rocked up beats the norm rather than the exception. The dance/rock pioneers are back with their first new material since 2007's hugely well received 'Best Of' compilation, of which the NME said "it's easy to forget how influential genre- mashing electronic mentalists Lo-Fidelity Allstars actually are - their fingerprints are all over everything by Kasabian to Klaxons, and they are adored by everyone from Rage Against The Machine to the Prodigy". 'Northern Stomp' is their brand new album. It begins with an acerbic anti-hymn to the south coast town they adopted and ends, quite literally, with a firework display. In between the spirits of Al Green, Funkadelic, southern swampland blues, Brian Wilson, northern soul, DFA and even the late great Barry White are conjured up in a spell binding mixture that could only be the sound of the Lo Fidelity Allstars. 1. Liner Notes: Artist Lo Fidelity Allstars Title Your Midnight Remixes Cat No CR024 Release Date Monday August 31st 09 Formats CD & Digital Download single 'Your Midnight' is the new single from Lo Fidelity Allstars The 'original version' is taken from their third album 'Northern Stomp', whilst the Lord Warddd and IDC mixes are exclusive to this release the Lord Warddd remix... With a distinctive take on the 21st Century House sound unique to his hometown New York City, other recent Wardddian remixes include outings for fellow hotly- tipped NYCers Cubic Zirconia and Matt and Kim. This almost Tribal re-work more than lives up to his recent description by DJ Mag as "ghetto, scratchadelic and totally original" the IDC remix... DMC Update reckons IDC makes The Prodigy sound like they're on X Factor, Mixmag say he's becoming the UK's own Boys Noize and iDJ describe his sound as "a savage injection of visceral dancefloor energy". This re-work of one of his own favourite bands is a trademark crossover dancefloor stomper

Liner Notes: Drive By Constable by Dragunz - Catalogue number CR025 Everybody's talking about dubstep, and the people who know about dubstep are talking about Dragunz' track "Drive By Constable"... Their debut cut is already a crowd-pleaser at huge Dubstep nights in the UK and the release comes complete with a version that swaggers up to you like a 21st Century take on a classic Studio One b side. Keith Richards said that too many people forget the 'roll' and concentrate on the 'rock', but Dragunz most surely put the dub into Dubstep.

His own 2009 single "Rich Boys In Strip Clubs" was described in DJ Mag as "Ghetto, scratchadelic and totally original" and iDJ gave 8/10 saying "this will cause carnage, especially when the breakbeats and hoovers smash into the mix." The debut Lord Warddd album has been recorded in New York and is currently in the final mixing stage. • Hidden Fees - The Heartaches - Single
Liner Notes: New York City band The Hidden Fees met Leeds ex-pat Lord Warddd on his adopted home turf of Queens whilst he was DJing at his Brooklyn Bowl monthly residency recently. One of the tracks he spun out that night was a version of his next single "The Heartaches", a big room dance beast that will be released in August. The band loved it so much that they went away and learnt the tune. The next month they went along and gave him a CDR containing their own version of the song. Lord Warddd was bowled over by their ingenuity and passed the stunning re-interpretation on to the A&R team at Corsair Records. Equally impressed, the label decided on the unique idea of releasing the cover version as a single on the same day Lord Warddd's original version comes out. You could say that music is in the DNA of the Hidden Fees. The Brooklyn band have an impressive array of close family ties to generations of NYC's best bands, including relations that were members of Blondie, Liquid Liquid, The Van Pelt and the Rapture.

Liner Notes: Coming straight out of Jackson Heights NYC, Lord Warddd's 2010 single 'Hoot'n'Holla' was loved by Mixmag with a 4 star review in the May issue - "This is a messed-up kind of gypsy ghetto funk in a similar vein to, say, Major Lazer's 'Mary Jane'. If Annie Mac's not on it yet I hope she's reading this. Very distinctive." New single "The Heartaches" is going to take things to a whole different level - an uplifting big room belter that looks to make the same kind of club/radio/mainstream crossover as massive tracks like The Shapeshifters' "Lola's Theme". "The Heartaches" will feature on the debut Lord Warddd album "Saturday Night Is Ours", recorded and mixed in New York and due for release later in 2010. Lord Warddd - born out of Leeds, booming out of Brooklyn... Lord Warddd's recent remix releases include a rare 10/10 in International DJ magazine and tracks for MTV Award winners Matt & Kim. "Lord Warddd's remix really does the business. There's a touch of early Beltram to his militant styled beats that drive this from day time bojangles to 3am depravity." 8/10 iDJ May 2010 "The only remix an electro fan needs is the Lord Warddd remix of 'I Know I'm A King'. It's a beautifully sung falsetto number; their label-mate does a peachy job of not going crazy on the synths but complimenting the vocal melody with enough bang on key changes to let this gentle track soar. Really nice." 4 stars Mixmag June 2010 "Ghetto, scratchadelic and totally original" DJ Mag Lord Warddd DJ sets have been described as "Sinden & Hervé on steroids" in Mixmag and"spectacular sonic collisions of acid energy, rock & roll attitude and psychedelic sounds" by DJ Mag. Liner Notes: 'Money Shot - Electro Single Of The Month' "If this unique 'Baroque-electro' style catches on, USofE could well be 2011's Riva Starr and this his very own 'I Was Drunk'" DJ Mag Mar 2011 Pan-European hedonist Angel Tripudio returns with his third single as United Sounds of Europe on Corsair Records. "The Statute of Anne" sees Angel's musical talents come to the fore, playing some of 'Handel's Variations' (on his own lovingly self-reconstructed harpsichord), laying it over his trademark dancefloor-destroying noises and in the process inventing a whole new genre of 'Baroque Electro'! "The Statute of Anne" takes its name from the world's first Copyright Act from 1709, also known as "An Act for the Encouragement of Learning." It was enacted in 1709 and entered into force on 10 April 1710. It is generally considered to be the first fully-fledged copyright statute. Liner Notes: House music continues to defy expectations, mutating and spawning whole genres as well as stand-alone new classics. The likes of Jamie Jones and Seth Troxler have carried the flame forward, and now the British Isles have produced 2K Subs to run with the torch. 2K Subs produce "impressionistic electronic sounds" which are driven by animate rhythms, creating a distinct mood for each recording that is equally at home on a big room club system as it is on in-ear headphones. Born out of the desire to create unique music with a mixture of found and self-made sounds, the foundation is firmly on the dance floor with a freedom that allows experimental ideas. Having worked in the recording industry for many years, both Max and Martin have produced, engineered, mastered and cut records for a plethora of different labels and artists. With 2K Subs, they combine their skills paying careful attention to sound quality to make sure the ideas speak loud and clear.
