Liner Notes: After composing the Chambers pieces in the spring of 1999 I made a home recording of them, mostly as a reminder to myself of how they should sound. I had no intention at the time of ever releasing the recording. But this year as I considered recording a new solo piano album, I listened again to my “basement tapes” documentation of Chambers and realized that the feeling of newly composed pieces performed on the instrument they were written on and with the original state of mind they were written in, was already what I was looking for. What the recording possibly lacks in modern studio quality sound is more than compensated for by the moment captured. I use the description “meditations” with caution – this music is not meant to have any of the other-worldly overtones that word often implies. Annika was so completely in sync with the material (and the pianist) that day, that I only regret we didn’t keep going and record the whole set of 15 songs in one sweep. This inspired half hour of music has been sitting on my shelf ever since. I’m very grateful for Annika’s permission to finally release it.
