LONDON STREETROCK FROM FRANKY FLAME, THE 'WIZARD OF OI!'

*"THE VERY BEST OF FRANKIE AND THE FLAMES 1979-1986" ALBUM......

LEGENDARY LONDON CHARACTER FRANKY 'BOY' FLAME BUILT A SOLID REPUTATION AS LONDON'S LEADING RABBLE ROUSING GOODTIME PIANIST/VOCALIST,AND FORMED FRANKIE AND THE FLAMES IN 1979 TO PUT MUSICAL FLESH ON THE BONES OF HIS SONGS. FRANK, FEATURED ON NATIONAL TV AND IN THE NATIONAL AND LOCAL PRESS, RECRUITED HIS LOCAL MATES BILLY PICKARD, BASS, STEVE FORWARD, GUITAR, AND PAUL GUNN, DRUMS. THE BAND HIT THE STREETS PLAYING THEIR UNIQUE BRAND OF COCKNEY STREETROCK, WHICH CAN BE DESCRIBED AS AN INCENDIARY BLEND OF POWER POP, ROCK N' ROLL, AND PUNK! THIS WAS A NATURAL DEVELOPMENT OF FRANKS' EXPERIENCE AS A MUSICIAN, AND HIS ABILITY TO WRITE CATCHY STREET-WISE LYRICS. ALSO A TRADEMARK OF THE FLAMES' SOUND WAS FRANKS' BAR-ROOM PIANO STYLE. THE BAND MADE MANY RECORDINGS AND SOON BECAME KNOWN AS A GREAT LIVE ACT!

FACES REGULARLY SEEN AT THE BAND'S GIGS INCLUDED THE BUSINESS, SQUEEZE, EDDIE AND THE HOT RODS, MAX SPLODGE, THE BLOOD, THE GONADS, GARRY JOHNSON, THE ESCORTS, DUMPY'S RUSTY NUTS, AND THOUSANDS OF SOUTH AND EAST LONDON FOLK WHO FOLLOWED THE BAND'S PROGRESS. AFTER SOME TRULY HIGH VOLTAGE PERFORMANCES IN LONDON AND ALL OVER THE SOUTH EAST OF ENGLAND, THE BAND FOUND NOTORIETY AND A PLACE IN STREETROCK FAME WHEN A CONCERT BY FRANK AND HIS CREW IN GREENWICH MARKET WAS STOPPED BY ARMED POLICE WITH DOGS...AFTER THE BAND WERE ACCUSED OF STARTING A RIOT! WHEN GARRY BUSHELL AND RON ROUMAN ASKED THE BAND TO GIVE A SONG FOR THE OI! COMPILATION 'OI! OI! THAT'S YER LOT', THEY AGREED AND 'ON YER BIKE' WAS RECORDED, AND PRODUCED BY MICKY GEGGUS OF THE COCKNEY REJECTS. THIS MARKED THE BAND'S FIRST COLLABORATION WITH OI! AND A BUSY AND PRODUCTIVE TIME FOR FRANK AND THE GROUP.

THE RECORDINGS ON THIS ALBUM PRESENT A MIXTURE OF FRANKIE AND THE FLAMES WELL KNOWN FAVOURITES PLUS SOME PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED GEMS, AND SOME LIVE TRACKS. AFTER MANY 'BLOOD, SWEAT AND BEERS' GIGS, A BRITISH TOUR, A EUROPEAN TOUR AND SEVERAL LINE UP CHANGES, FRANKIE AND THE FLAMES HAVE GIVEN US A RICH LEGACY OF RECORDINGS THAT STILL SOUND AS FRESH TODAY AS WHEN THEY WERE RECORDED! THIS IS THE MUSICAL STORY OF ONE OF LONDON'S SEMINAL STREET BANDS, WHO BLEND REALISTIC OBSERVATION WITH WIT AND STYLE, AND SERVE IT UP AS A MELODIC AND DYNAMIC BREW! FROM THE STREETS OF LONDON, THIS IS *"THE VERY BEST OF FRANKIE AND THE FLAMES 1979-1986".
