Heather Lloyd has spent a decade co-fronting Baltimore-based folk rock group ilyAIMY, touring the country with her reporter-turned-songwriter narratives, signature picked guitar, djembe and her earnest, moving, lush alto. These earned Lloyd time on tour with Dar Williams, along with a growing ledger of 2010-2011 honors: Falcon Ridge Folk Festival Emerging Artist, Folk DJ Showcase at the Northeast Regional Folk Alliance, National Association for Campus Activities Showcase Artist, and Lilith Fair finalist.
In 2010, Lloyd also released her first solo studio CD, "Samples," to praise like this:
"The collection on Samples, her first solo record, covers from the depths of depression and pain to the exuberant. Her voice, which is elegantly controlled with a slight smokiness and equally at home in folk and jazz, is so compelling that it might take a while before you become conscious of just how strong the songs are lyrically. It gives the album the special charm of an intimate presentation, as if she is performing just for the listener ... At the end, about the time you are ready to reach for the handkerchief, she comes up with the dancing-in-the-streets exuberance of “The Winter Bride,” performed solo on the ukelele." - H. Stephen Patton (Driftwood Magazine)
"Not everyone's voice is an instrument. Hers is." - Todd Walker (Wispy Mop Music)
"Lloyd's voice has a powerful emotional and technical range, using everything from a delicate whisper to a bluesy growl to breathe life into folk narratives." - Michael Duck (The Morning Call)
"A pint-sized powerhouse of a singer." - The Washington Times
"Not a bullshit, American Idol-esque, over-sing-because-it-lacks-substance kinda voice, but genuine and heartfelt ... and she chooses to sing in a manner that serves the message of the song - And her songs have a message. Track #8: Among the gutsiest songs ever written. Track #10: This [love song] is not only unique but it has a nice narrative twist..." - Mike Bowers (VA Music Guru)
