INSANITY - Pioneers of Old School Death Metal

Insanity are pioneers of old school death metal who played faster, heavier and more technical than anyone in 1985. Unfortunately they remained underground due to a number of reasons most notably the death of vocalist/guitarist Joe DeZuniga in 1987. Since 2005 after Napalm Death covered the band on the Leaders Not Followers vol. 2 release, they have been making a comeback with the From The Grave release distributed by Relapse Records. In March of 2007 Insanity played a ripping set at the Los Angeles Murderfest 8 months before drummer Bud Mills (who pioneered the blast beat) died of cancer. Insanity has several new releases in the works including the 2nd full length release Visions of Apocalypse although they are still shopping it to labels and reforming with a new drummer.

Liner Notes: Liner Notes written by Matt Harvey from EXHUMED Insanity never became legends, but they should have... If not for a crazy sequence of events far too convoluted to fully detail here, they should have taken a place alongside Death, Possessed, and Morbid Angel as a groundbreaking technical Death/Thrash outfit... but it was not to be. The strength of the songs that the band wrote in the mid 1980s is beyond question - especially when compared what bands like Death and Morbid Angel were doing in 1985 - the sophistication of the Insanity material is on the same level as Possessed at their most fearsome, but a lot faster. It is a testament to the power of these unsung DM pioneers that these tunes still sound so damn fierce, it makes me wonder what the hell I would have thought had I heard them in '85! Hopefully this disc will help the band to finally be given its due as an important, albeit missing piece of the puzzle that is the evolution of Death Metal. - Matt Harvey - Exhumed, et al...
