Liner Notes: While the title of this album is "First Songs" these are of course not my first songs written or sung. Growing up in a musical household, singing in college, church, seminary and anywhere I could sing gave me a good repertoire of songs from old time hymns to aria, to contemporary folk, then blues and jazz. These songs however are the first songs published in studio format and for your enjoyment. Great thanks to Tom and Jennifer Buchanan who gave me the gift of this recording back in 1993 as my going away gift. In reality, this gift has continually given me back to myself and the good things in life. Also, my life partner Dianne is nothing but blessing as she gives me the space and time to return to my music and experiment with all the other art forms I love. I hope you enjoy the songs. In my art, music and stories I seek to convey the beauty I see, hear and feel in the live around us. We are surrounded by the spirit of nature, the soul of sound and the dance of vision. The goal of art is to move us; move us to look inward or reach outward or stop and be still. All we have is here and now and this life before us, over our heads, under our feet, residing in our center is good.
