My name is Randy Thompson. I live in the York area and my dad Paul Thompson lives in the Punxsutawney area. Both my Dad and I have recently had the opportunity to record a CD of 12 my original songs and one hymn re-done in a bluesy rendition. We recorded in Nashville with many well-known studio musicians. Musicians such as Jon Conley: Kenny Chesney Band; Kenny Hutson: Grand Ole' Opry house band steel guitarist; Jim Dineen: mixing and mastering engineer for such artists as Prince, REM, Bruce Hornsby, Emmylou Harris and Third Day as well as many more. Our name is Randy-Paul and the CD is titled "Touched".
I hold two jobs. Full time as a Corrections Officer at the State Correctional Institute of Camp Hill, PA and the secondary as a Worship Leader of the 10:30 a.m. praise service at my church, Otterbein U.M.C. in Mt. Wolf, PA. My dad, who also sings many of the songs on the CD and has provided much influence for the song content of many of the songs as I have written them, is the Pastor of the Cloe, Steffy and Covode U.M.C. charge in Punsxutawney, PA.
I've played instruments and sang most of my life and am self taught. I grew up watching my dad sing and learning from the musicians in many of the bands he was in until he left the bar scene when I was about 15 years old. At that point he began to get involved in our local church and eventually got involved in ministry, which lead to him becoming a pastor. I began writing songs in my early 30's as an outlet to just express some of my emotions and thoughts. It wasn't until a few years ago, when I saw some men reaching out to others through a foundation my dad started called The Tom Siple Foundation: https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Tom-Siple-Foundation/374217999370, that I started to think it would be great to write a song about the people of that foundation. The foundation gives outdoor adventures (hunts, day in the pitts at the races, day at with the team and coaches at a college football game, a day pampering a women who had breast cancer, etc.), to those with a handicap or are terminally ill or as the foundation likes to term them, "Other-Abled". That song was titled, "Touched".
After doing the song for the T. S. Foundation a friend and musician, Tom Frye who had heard the songs contacted a producer he had known in Nashville, TN to help us get the song recorded. After hearing the song as well as others I had written our producer, Jeremy Casella, had enthusiastically agreed to not only record that song but encouraged us to write and record an entire album stating, "Although I would be honored to produce the entire album, I feel it should be recorded and would be happy to help you get a list of producers from the area, should you chose to go that route." After hearing a little of what Casella had done and seeing his work ethic we couldn't think of anyone we would like better to have produce this album. The album "Touched" is a country album of 13 songs, 12 of which I have written. One is an old hymn redone as a bluesy rendition. The songs cover subjects that my dad and I have dealt with in our lives. Things like Family, divorce, alcoholism, hunting, riding our Harley's and Christian beliefs. Many ask me if it is a country album or a Christian album because of my church involvement. My answer is, "It is simply Country Music through the eyes of a Christian."
