RealDEEP Recordings
The sound of a decade is difficult to capture. To express the influence of a particular time and space presents many challenges. Chicago’s RealDEEP Recordings delivers just what its name suggests: deep music. From deep, soulful house and neo-jazz, to stripped-down beat tracks, this label’s releases take the listener back in time, back to the loft.
Sultry vocals and lush, pulsing synths recreate the feeling when the sun lit up the room at 5 AM and everyone kept dancing. Recall a crowded dancefloor competing for the space before the speakers as stomping jack-house kickdrums meet swinging, bouncy basslines and layered keyboards.
RealDEEP’s mission is to remind us of the loft party sound that emerged in Chicago, New York, and Detroit from the late 70s throughout the late 90s, a recreation of the time when house wasn’t divided into subcategories and anything vibrant and welcoming qualified. RealDEEP reminds us with every release that “house is a feeling”.
Label artists and co-founders, Brian “Bjak” Cullen and Julio Bishop, spent years cultivating the ultra-relaxed, percussive sounds of RealDEEP, playing and promoting events with Chicago’s world-famous DJ crew, Soul Foundation Kollective. Cullen brings to the table a wealth of experience behind the industry scenes, such as running WAXaddict, an influential Chicago record store. While Cullen’s skills sharpened behind the scenes, Bishop’s history with Soul Foundation, as a locally and globally renowned DJ, confirms RealDEEP’s commitment to the dancefloor.
With eight digital releases under its belt, multiple bookings throughout the U.S. and Europe, and a release schedule reaching well into 2010, RealDEEP is poised to make its mark on house music. From Chicago with love, this label’s every move takes listeners back to the underground experience.

- 10/31/2009

Liner Notes: These 'brothers from another mother' are back at it again, coming at you with a brand new release entitled the "Little House Of Horrors EP". RealDEEP's seventh release exposes the darker side of this prolific duo and leads the label in a bold, new direction. Inspired by lustful-little-secrets, hidden-agendas and near-death-experiences, they scrape the gutter to emerge with this frightening new sound; One-part Post-Industrial waste, One-part Mathematical Genius. 'Side A' unveils an unorthodox prototype by Bjak & Bishop entitled, "Konfession Of A Dirty Mind". A peephole into their pornographic minds, this track taunts you to confess your sins and embrace your innermost desires. Combining the mystique of Medusa's with a Ministry of Sound appeal, this track brings a a fresh new energy to the classic, industrial sound. Driven by a punchy kick & relentless high-hats, and topped by grotesque synths lines and Bjak's "Britt-esque" vocals, track 1 will have you on your knees praying for forgiveness. Track 2 is a re-touched and dubbed-out version of the original. With the addition of a warm analog bass line and screaming electric guitar, this mix is built to beat the dance-floor. 'Side B' opens with "Koncussion", a Julio Bishop original. Like a powerful migraine, this track ceaselessly attacks with a fury that paralyzes even the strongest of heart. Combining the energy of classic Chicago acid tracks with the precision of early electronica, this tune has surprises lurking at every turn. 'B2' brings another fresh & experimental sound to the plate with "Damaged", a slow, gritty, indie-ustrial jam flexing distorted guitar riffs and ripping synthesizers. Definitely a throwback to our childhood and the darker side of dance-music. Quenching your thirst with unique vibrations, RealDEEP delivers the "Little House Of Horrors EP", aimed at presenting quality, deep, underground dance music ...beyond boundaries.
