Rhigo was born in Guanabacoa, a city of Havana, Cuba. Since he was a child, he has felt a lot of affection for music and singing, despite the fact that there were no musicians in his family. He sang the hit songs that he heard on the radio and enjoyed learning these songs more than anyone else.

At the age of 8, Rhigo had his first guitar. Every time he passed by the music store he would torment his mother until he couldn’t beg anymore to buy him one. As soon as he had it, he started to play. He learned to play it within the first month.

Immediately, Rhigo entered a children’s group, managed by the department of Cuban culture. The group played traditional Latin music. Rapidly he became a soloist. Thanks to his talent and charisma, he presented himself in multiple scenarios. He remained in the group and shared stages with artists like Pablo Milanes, Silvio Rodriguez, and Irakere until his parents immigrated to Venezuela.

Upon his arrival to Venezuela, Rhigo continued his Baccalaureate studies and began singing classes, which he considered to be his gymnasium. He graduated from High School and began to study education in the University, where he graduated Suma Cumlaude due to his high academic placing. Parties and informal presentations lead Rhigo to obtaining his first contract in a night club, where he began his development and approach to the current sound. Success did not make Rhigo wait and he started getting bigger gigs and rubbing elbows with a vast array of successful national and international artists such as Pentagono, Yordano, Ilan Chester and Jose Jose.

Rhigo won prizes and recognitions from many institutions, and lent his talent for charitable events also.

Rhigo took blow after blow in Venezuela when the national record labels refused him, and he started making what is called “disposable music”, refusing opportunities where his style was compromised, or he would not have freedom of creation. This made it so he didn’t accept very many proposals.

Rhigo believes in his music and what he does, like one of his songs says: “Defend your ideology, good or bad but mine!”

During this period, Rhigo was involved in publicity, doing jingles and commercials, which brought unexpected success, and everything that he announced was a commercial hit. The radios started filling up with his excellent voice since then.

Presently Rhigo has a small company called Playsong Publicity which is dedicated to this type of production. But Rhigo has a priority: his music. That’s why he was working very hard at completing his first original album by the beginning of 2002 to spread his music and to achieve contact with an important record label, and to realize his most ambitious projects. But over all, he wants to do what he was born to do…sing!

After having done a small compilation of 4 songs in the previous year, Rhigo concentrated all of his energy on his album, Evolution (Evolución), which would mean a change in his music and life. This compound album produced and directed by Rhigo himself is available on the most important music website in the World Wide Web, allowing him absolute control of his career.

Thanks to the support of thousands of net users and to his incredible effort, Rhigo became the most downloaded Latin artist in the least amount of time, and by the middle of 2003 his songs occupied number one places on the charts of different genres in music websites all over the world.

Rhigo continues to work diligently and faces 2004 with a big challenge: to finish a more personal and aggressive CD than “Evolution”, where his style is defined moreover and his musical scene embarks in “Liberty Syndrome”, a pop rock album with fusions, incredible lyrics, and a lot of interpretive arrangements and force, one of Rhigo’s strengths. “The Voice”, as his friends and fans call him, delivers his heart and soul in this album.

“Liberty Syndrome” was able to be the most downloaded Spanish language albums on the net. At the end of 2004, one of the songs of the CD “Miracle of Love” was part of the soundtrack of the expo Airport II, which took place in Germany during the Athens games 2004, where 32 works of art were exhibited. This song was selected from more than 3500 tracks. The song “Since the Day You Left” (Desde El Día Que Te Fuiste) was used in a Spanish television series and the song, “Not In Your Space, Nor In Your Time” (Ni En Tu Espacio, Ni En Tu Tiempo) remained 12 weeks in the top 10 of www.download.com.

Meanwhile, Rhigo continues to wait for his moment, because if he has accomplished all of this by his own effort, what will happen when he has the support of a company that appreciates and values him? Only time will tell. For the time being, Rhigo’s music and lyrics should feed our hearts and souls with his unmistakable seal.
