Ryan Serene, known by many as Ryan “Mac” McManaman, started his music career back in 2002 when he began writing and recording his own music. Born and raised in Waukegan, Illinois, Ryan finds inspiration and passion for his music from the experiences he had as a child growing up. In Ryan’s words, “My music is a true reflection of who I am as a person, what I believe in, and what I’ve overcome.” At a very early age Ryan was exposed to drug and alcohol abuse. His father, who was an alcoholic, was not a part of his life at all after his parents divorced due to excessive infidelity and spousal abuse. After the divorce, Ryan’s mother struggled to cope with the effects of an unhealthy marriage and resorted to drugs and alcohol. With all of this going on, Ryan’s grandparents ultimately saved his life by raising him throughout his teenage years. Upon graduating High School, the first member of his immediate family to do so, Ryan would attend college after receiving the opportunity to play baseball at the collegiate level. But by Ryan’s sophomore year he was struck with tragedy yet again. On the morning of January 21st, 2008 Ryan was informed that his father had committed suicide. Needless to say, with everything that has happened to Ryan at such an early age, he uses music as a tool to express his thoughts and emotions. Ryan believes that music is his way of coping with the scars of his personal life, and in doing so it will give his listeners a real understanding of who he is as a person. More importantly, Ryan chooses to be completely honest about his personal life because he believes it is important to show other young men and women that they too can overcome a tragic childhood. Now since his last release in the fall of 2010, Ryan has been working on his solo album “Shock Therapy”. This album will include 17 brand new songs, introducing an entirely new sound from Ryan that is bound to surprise his listeners. Ryan states, “I am extremely excited to share this album with everyone. I can promise that I challenged myself in every way that I could possibly think of, and to be completely honest I put 100% of my heart and soul into these songs. Shock Therapy is a project that I’ve been working towards for the past ten years.” Shock Therapy is set to release Thursday July 12th, with the first single off the album being “Must Be The Shoes”. With "Shock Therapy" Ryan is confident that his listeners will appreciate his honestly, hear his hunger, and feel his pain.
