Liner Notes: Long ago in the lands now known as Atlantis, the ancients lived in harmony and peace. They were devoted to the creation of wonderful technology, music and art. Eventually aliens from another galaxy came and began to disturb their society with a disruptive series of tones and rhythms. This finally forced a long and arduous battle between them. Using various instruments and a wide range of techniques the Atlanteans fought back, but the aliens began to use cloning techniques and infiltrated into their society, ultimately taking control. A rebel creative group of Atlanteans decided they must break free from the “Alien Groove”, so they constructed a space pod in order to leave the solar system. They then took refuge in the nearest spiral galaxy and established a hidden base on “Planet X”. After many eons of preparation the reincarnated souls of these ancient rebels have finally recharged their Intergalactic Space Pod for the long flight back. They have developed many new rhythms and sounds to begin discharging the “Alien Groove” from the planet. Upon landing they improvise and channel with these new creations. At last......they have upset the alien applecart. Please join us on our journey and quest of restoring peace, harmony and manifestation towards the highest good.
The Intergalactic Suite from Session 3 is one continuous group improvisation that was literally the "warm-up" piece used to test all pod elements. Once proper function and charge were established, the portals were opened for exploration. Part I begins with sounds from the 1967 Buchla CM100 modular synthesizer. Imagine traveling to a distant Spiral Galaxy aboard a podlike starship. In Part II, the explorers gaze in awe at the discovery of an enormous Black Hole in the galaxies center. In Part III, the Black Hole ("Leo") undergoes rapid quantum changes due to their observations and begins to devour the nearby galaxy.
The Suite features solos by: Glenn Brown (buchla cm100 modular synth, echoplex & electric guitar), Mark Kieme (tenor sax & flute), David Taylor (drums).
Grandma's Attic from Session 2 started as an outline by guitarist Robert Tye. Imagine family members exploring dusty remnants and the echoes of forgotten memories in your grandmother's attic. It features solos by: Robert Tye (bathroom guitar), Mark Kieme (bass clarinet), Jim Alfredson (rhodes piano), Joe Gloss (electric guitar).
Clown Bicycle came from Session 1 and is based on a concept of drummer Randy Marsh originally debuted with the ensemble The Flagrant Disregard. The rhythm of the opening section is pre-conceived but the notes are selected individually and at random.
It features solos by: Pod members Mark Kieme (soprano & tenor sax, picolo), Robert Tye (electric guitar), Jim Alfredson (keyboards), Joseph Gloss (electric guitar), Chuck Bartels (electric bass).
500 Parsecs From Home from Session 4 is another piece that came to life without any discussion. The track opens with a Doppler image recording of the Sun made by SOHO (the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory) converted into the range of human hearing. Synthesizers open the piece evoking the forlorn feeling of being light-years away from home and conclude in conveying the joyous and blissful return. It features solos by: Mark Kieme (flute & tenor sax ), Glenn Brown (electric guitar).

Liner Notes: "Mr. Crazy & Other Tales" took a long time to write and record. It was not hastily thrown together, nor was my life, the subject matter of this record. The songs hopefully dovetail into one another, conceived and beautifully preformed by the numerous talented musicians and engineers who helped the songs find their true voice. The record revealed itself after many months of misses and false starts. Some of my favorite moments on the record are those that were "unplanned".
It isn't my intention to explain the songs on this record, for if we did our job right, the words and music tell the story I wanted to tell. It is not my intention to preach or persuade, but to give a glimpse into a musical life interrupted. And just for fun... I want to talk about how some of the songs on the record came to be.
"Storm" was the first song written for the record, but quickly set aside.
After months of recording other songs, "Storm" would not be denied. Three versions of the song were done, all cut live.
"Open Road" came second, inspired by a musician I worked with who once told me my chords were not correct. "Robbie's River" was written in the beauty of spring about a dear friend I lost.
"Fly" took the least amount of time to write but took the most out of me to record.
"Something About You" was written the day before the demo and I kept the lyrics sparse to try to capture how we all go stupid when we fall in love.
"Mr. Crazy" took the longest for me to write and was almost cut from the record until Glenn Brown gave it a real musical home.
"Third Stone From Heaven" is my humble tribute to Jaco Pastorious and all the musical gifts he gave the world. Although 2 versions of this track were recorded, we ended up using the original one take raw version recorded on River City's piano. It had more flaws but more heart.
"Oregon" is one of my favorite tracks on the record and the first Glenn Brown tackled.
And yes, "Thanksgiving Day" was written on Thanksgiving Day.
"Tracks" was one of the last songs to be written for the record and came alive one day with Glenn finding the exact rhythm/vibe for it.
"Free" was written right after I made the decision not to do this record in Nashville. It is a song of hope, not despair. Although other producers offered to record this album, it landed squarely in the lap of Glenn Brown at GBP Studios.
I would like to thank; Hank Horton, Brian Brill, David Taylor, Robert Tye, Donny Brown, Dan Phelps, Ingrid Pastorius, Bob Bobbing, Greg Nagy, John Fritz, Chad Hailey, Viktor Krauss, Josh Wesley, Marc Larson, Susan Brown, Joe McCarger, Roger Bliss @ Image Audio Mastering, Jackie Heldt and my family @ River City. And a special thank you to Austin Ruhstorfer, Engineer at River City, who was the first person to suggest I could stand on my own two feet as a musician and do a real record. I thank Glenn Brown for his dedication, sacrifice and boundless creativity that produced this record. In the 14 months it took to complete, and through personal tragedies and events, we never lost our passion to complete what we started. I thank Glenn for never giving up and showing me the power of the third. This record is dedicated to Mary who filled our house with music & James who bought me my first Piano.
