The Karate Rap

The Karate Rap

The Karate Rap was written and produced in 1986 by David Seeger and Holly Whitstock Seeger, fresh off of post-production of the music video for the Broadway show, “Cats” at TODAY VIDEO INC. This video features the choreography of Michael Scott Gregory, “Mistoffelees” in the Broadway show and all the dancers are from that production, as well. Ironically, at the time, MTV would not even consider putting rap on their cable station since ‘rap’ was looked down upon at the time; it was too new. As the edit process began, David and Holly discovered they were expecting a child; Max, the first of four. In January 2012, the children conspired together and put The Karate Rap up on Sam Seeger youtube channel, ‘samfromglove'. It is now available as a single, as a karaoke version & as 4 ringtones.

Liner Notes: The Karate Rap – David and Holly Whitstock Seeger created this tongue-in-cheek music video back in 1986. Back then, rap was not considered worthy for MTV and they would not even consider putting the genre on their cable station; The Karate Rap, or anyone else’s rap for that matter. Although we would have been thrilled if the song drew some attention back then, the video served as a demo for Samurai Studios in their goal to direct music videos. Now, 25 years later, with the full consensus of all four children, their son, Sam posted it on youtube on January 25, 2012 and to date, February 9, it has almost 300,000 hits and, as a result, think the world is now ready for its release as a single, as well as, the karaoke version.
