REVIEWS:
Nurse Who Loved Me: After the Last Vandal Attack
(CD ALBUM)
Do you like some Foo Fighters songs, but feel that they've never really used what they've got? Do you miss Rocket From The Crypt? Do you find yourself hurling things at the TV when it tells you that Razorlight have released the best guitar album of the year? Yeah, me too. We need this album. The Nurse Who Loved Me are three guys who have an intense driving energy, great songs and a sound which sets them apart, both locally and generally. The opening salvo of the title track, 'Not Cautious', and single 'Pass the Blame' should really be enough to convince anyone that this band has a future. The music then opens out to embrace some different tempos and avenues but it maintains the grim minor chord determination. All three members pull their weight at every second, it's not possible to pinpoint what the best part of each track is because there's so much happening. The bass fuzzes and pounds, the drums flirt with some post rock, the guitar stabs and echoes, chugs and grinds. Everything is perfectly placed. This is involving, intelligent music, played with a speedy thrashy ethos to keep the heart pumping. Sample lyric from particular highlight 'Surrender' - 'We only want to make you care.' It worked. I care. And you should too.
