Wayne Roland Brown is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, song writer, independent record producer, gemstone dealer, jewelry designer and founder Gondwanaland opals.
Born in New Zealand, when Wayne was young, he and his mother traveled to Canada where they lived for two years. He later returned to New Zealand to finish high school and to study Arts Law in Wellington at Victoria University.
After moving to Australia in 1976, Wayne worked with artists such as: Barry Maguire (Eve of Destruction), Billy Thorpe and Brian Cadd. As a musicologist, he has traveled widely in pursuit of his interest in non-western music. Collecting over 150 musical instruments from 32 countries around the world (including the didjeridoo, Arabic Ud, and sitar), Wayne has worked as a music educator for 23 years giving performance / lecture tours for all of the Australian Arts Councils. Wayne’s interest and enthusiasm for teaching children has led to more than 4000 school performances in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the U. S. A.
Wayne's debut album on E. A. R. Records, Flight of Fancy, includes his hit song, “Essential Sensual”, which was in the Tom Cruise movie, Cocktail. His latest album, Lightning Ridge and the ballad of Johny Jones is a collection of songs about the characters he has met over the last 30 years as a collector and buyer of Australian opal.
Over 100 of Wayne’s songs have been recorded by such diverse artists as Seals and Crofts, Tom Kimmel, Bob La Castra, Peter Emmett, and Doug Parkinson. He has worked as a co-writer with Lacy J. Dalton, Tony Coulton, Layng Martine, Jr., Buddy Mondlock, Fred Koller, and Tom Kimmel.
