Artist Case Study

PJ Sin Suela

A lot of musicians work 9 to 5’s before hitting it big; only only one musician on the planet graduated from medical school before getting his own NPR Tiny Desk concert:

PJ Sin Suela.

How did PJ go from practicing medicine to proactively shaping pop-culture? Drive, talent, and TuneCore Accelerator.

There's no falsifying the kind of joy PJ Sin Suela exudes

In May 2025, PJ and 12 of his collaborators dropped an incendiary 23-minute NPR Tiny Desk concert. They dressed the set with Puerto Rican flags; the show feature the first ASL interpreter in Tiny Desk history. Its blends of rap, funk, and reggaeton quickly garnered more than 300,000 views on YouTube and ecstatic praise from the comments section.

In NPR’s own words: “There's no falsifying the kind of joy PJ Sin Suela exudes” and, on one of the world’s most important stages for music, he delivers in spades.

See for yourself:

PJ’s earned this moment

There aren’t many people who can attend medical school and make hip-hop during their downtime – and his ability to craft songs that resonate with listeners worldwide precedes NPR. The mayor of San Juan went viral dancing to PJ’s music, and Bad Bunny himself asked PJ to collab on multiple tracks.

PJ made his own star rise, but even he needed a hand taking his music all-the-way mainstream.

That’s where TuneCore Accelerator came in.

PJ is part of TuneCore Accelerator when it launches in June 2023

The results were almost instantaneous.

70 of PJ’s tracks were promoted through TuneCore Accelerator – those tracks gained 1.71 million additional streams for PJ and the artists he collaborated with.

“Cintas Negras” – which PJ performed during his Tiny Desk – saw a 381% uplift in track growth and 371% increase in listener growth.

PJ’s lifetime growth with Accelerator as of this case study’s publication? 1.7 million new streams, 241% average stream lift, and 230% average listener lift.

Here are some of PJ’s career highlights in the wake of that growth

PJ drops a new album – Toda Época Tiene Su Encanto – in September 2024. Four of its tracks are opted into Accelerator and see listens in the hundreds of thousands.

The album instantly nets PJ two of his ten most popular ten tracks on Spotify.

PJ and his collaborator Raino are featured in Rolling Stone Magazine for their electric song “Favorite”.

Best of all? PJ gets booked for NPR’s Tiny Desk series in May 2025.

There’s no overselling the Tiny Desk effect

Per Luminate:

“An analysis of the streaming outcomes of 63 artists who performed on [Tiny Desk] in 2025 found the average artist enjoyed 12% growth* in the eight weeks after their Tiny Desk appearance (including week of) vs. their eight-week average baseline prior to the performance, according to Luminate CONNECT.

Smaller-scale artists, who are still introducing themselves, tend to enjoy disproportionate growth rates following their Tiny Desk performances (vs. Bad Bunny, for instance, who didn’t see materially higher streaming volumes following his Tiny Desk set).

Arguably one of the most powerful examples of Tiny Desk’s influence is hip-hop artist Doechii’s ascent starting in the latter half of 2024 through early 2025. While the artist had already spent years building up a fanbase, a December Tiny Desk performance gave added exposure to her earlier album release…and ultimately snowballed into the viral diffusion of Doechii’s “Anxiety” title, which peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100”

PJ benefits from the Tiny Desk boost too

His tour sells out across the country and his streams keep climbing. Interviews with Billboard follow, as do more and more streams.

The best is yet to come. As PJ tells NPR: “I really think that right now, fusion is, like, the future. Como, people are trying not to be boxed in anymore.”

Accelerator is for any artist looking to break through boxes the industry draws around them. PJ’s career successes were enviable before he opted-in; they’re A-list now. No artist is too big to benefit from a slice of the 2.5 billion artist discoveries* and 5.5 billion track discoveries Accelerator generated between 2023 and 2024.

The only label TuneCore Accelerator cares about is growth – we apply it to your career on day one.
