We’ve got lots of songwriter news coming from our Music Publishing Administration office. Here are just a few of the highlights…
TuneCore Music Publishing welcomes legendary early rock and roll icon Robert Lee “Chan” Romero to our growing roster of incredible songwriters. Romero is best known for his seminal 1959 hit, “Hippy Hippy Shake”and is often associated with close contemporary and label-mate Ritchie Valens. Romero’s career skyrocketed after coming to the attention of Paul McCartney, who played the song live at the Cavern Club in Liverpool and the Star Club in Hamburg during the early years of The Beatles.
TuneCore Music Publishing is proud to announce the signing of songwriter and guitar maven Avi Bortnick. Bortnick is best known for his long (and funky as hell) musical association with influential jazz guitarist John Scofield. Bortnick and Scofield collaborate in composing and producing as well as touring—Bortnick handles rhythm guitar and live sample duties. In addition to playing with Scofield, Bortnick has written and performed as a solo artist and alongside marquee musicians Bobby McFerrin and Jim Weider of The Band.
TuneCore Music Publishing is thrilled to be involved in the budding career of Johnny Hwin and Brodie Jenkins who together form Cathedrals. The duo pens epic dream pop anthems and has seen consecutive singles skyrocket to the top of Hype Machine’s no remix list. 2014 is shaping up to be a huge year as their compositions continue to yield heavy attention from music supervisors and blogs from around the world.
TuneCore Music Publishing and Distribution recently partnered with American Idol top 10 finisher Melinda Doolittle on her latest EP, You’re The Reason. USA Today premiered the title track single and writes, “Doolittle, by all accounts one of the best pure singers ever to appear on the series, shows off her developing songwriting chops on the EP.” The collection of funky groove R&B was produced by Grammy and Dove award winner Tre’ Corley.
